My Dog Fell Asleep With His Tongue Out
Then He Wiggles It Like A Party Favor!
Why do dogs stick their tongues out when they sleep? It turns out that some dogs do this when they are completely relaxed.
I have two dogs that sleep with their tongue out. One is an older dog, about 7 years old. She often sleeps with her tongue out. You can see just tip peeking out between her lips. Sometimes she wakes up and still has it sticking out LOL.
My Dog Is Sleeping With His Tongue Out
The other night my wife and I were watching TV and my dogs were asleep on the 'dog couch' (an old futon they are allowed to get on). My wife looked over and had to stifle a laugh. She pointed towards the dog couch so I looked. It was hilarious. My young dog, Junior (only 2 yrs old) was asleep with his tongue out, so that was pretty cute. I noticed he had his tongue sticking out pretty far, that was pretty funny. But it was what he was doing with his tongue that made me laugh.
What made it EXTRA funny this time is that not only did my dog fall asleep with his tongue hanging out, but this time he WIGGLES it like a party favor.
LOL - this little guy was a feral pup I adopted a couple of years ago. He's a good boy. He often sleeps with his tongue out, but I've never seen him wiggle it like this before. I'm so glad I managed to capture it on this video.

What Should I Name My Character?
If you’re a writer, you know this question well. Populating your world with unique characters can be a challenge. Sometimes names just sound dumb, sometimes names are too difficult to come up with. So what should you do to come up with great character names? What’s the best way to have a name ready in an instant for your next RPG adventure or your next novel? In this article, I will try to help you come up with unique and believable names for male and female characters.
Cool Character Names for Girls, Cool Character Names for Guys
We want names that are interesting. One way to come up with cool names is to start with a resource of cool names. I researched geographical zones all around the world and gathered lists of names that sounded cool, were authentic, and popular in the various regions. I made an effort to curate some great sounding names. I put these names into a series of easy to use tables to make character name generation a breeze.
Character Name Generator
There are tons of automated character name generators on the internet, but there are some advantages that hardcopy name tables have over automated character name generators.
- No Internet Required – Paper tables work anywhere there ISN’T an internet signal. No wifi required! You can use my Random Name Tables anywhere! You don’t even need electricity.
- You Can Choose Cool Sounding Names- Instead of generating character names randomly, you can just pick out some names from the list because you can see them all at once. With automatic character name generators, you have to keep generating names over and over. You will be skipping over a lot of repetitive and strange names.
First Name Generator, Last Name Generator
My random names tables come with a first name generator and a last name generator. Create a list of 10 or 20 character names then check them off as you use them in your game or novel. This will help you maintain “flow” while you are writing. You won't have to stop to generate a name and disrupt your train of thought. Whenever you introduce a new character, just turn to your list of pre-approved names.
Character Generator
Sometimes coming up with all the details of every character who ever lived in your fictional world can be a brain drain. Some authors like to use automated character generators in addition to name generators. These random character generators have the same flaws and drawbacks as random name generators. The results often don’t make any sense and you have to generate a bunch of them just to get a few that could work. It’s better to just use them as rough suggestions and to work them into something useable.
How Do You Choose a Character Name?
When I choose a character name have a couple of methods:
- For main characters, choose names that sound cool from the list.
- For background characters, I usually roll dice and generate names randomly.
- For superhero genre I choose names that are illiterative such as Johnathan Jones or Felicty Frost.
- For science fiction I like to choose the last name first, like Cooper, Bishop, Hawkes, and West.
These are just my personal tips, you might think of another method that works well for you.
How Do you Come Up With A Unique Name?
The methods I listed here are just a few suggestions for generating cool character names. Do you have a favorite method for coming up with random character names? If youre still stuck, check out the video below!

How to Roll d66 Using Normal Dice
A great way to bring fresh new material into your science fiction RPG, or even just to give details to a certain situation is to use RPG expansion tables. One common form of RPG expansion is a d66 table. I have authored a line of d66 RPG expansion tables for science fiction games, such as Traveller, Cepheus Engine, d6 space, and most other popular sci-fi tabletop RPG systems based on 6-sided dice.
What Does d66 Mean?
Gamers roll a lot of dice and commonly they are unusual dice, with more than 6 sides. Instead of constantly writing or saying, "roll 2 six-sided dice" or, "roll 4 eight-sided dice" they have developed a type of shorthand. You abbreviate, "roll 2 six-sided dice" as "roll 2d6". Basically, you put the number of dice first, the letter, "d", then the number of sides on the dice to roll.
Roll: <quantity> d <number of sides>
2d6 means roll 2 six-sided dice
3d8 means roll 3 eight-sided dice
4d10 means roll 4 ten-sided dice
So d66 must mean, "roll 1 sixty-six-sided die", right? Well kind of.
What Is a d66?
A d66 is a way to generate numbers between 11 and 66. It is used on RPG expansion tables to give you a range of 36 different numbers.
Thankfully you don't need a special 66-sided die to accomplish this. You can do it with a normal set of 6-sided dice (2d6).
How Do I Roll A d66?
You probably thought that 2 dice could only give you the numbers 2-12. Well, that's how we've been using six-sided dice in other games our whole lives. But there is another way to use six-sided dice; by rolling them and considering them separately. One die is the tens digit, the other die is the ones digit. The easiest way to do this is to use two different colored dice and designating one color as the tens and the other as the ones. If you don't have dice of two different colors, just roll a single six-sided twice. The first roll is the tens digit and the second roll is the one digit.
Use this technique to roll d66, generating a number from 11 to 66. Then consult the RPG expansion tables for the results.

What's Wrong With The Ship?
Starship Malfunction Expansion Tables
and Deck of Cards
What happens when your pilot fails her landing attempt... BADLY?
What happens when your starship takes combat damage?
There are some expansion tables for ship damage from combat, hard landings, poor maintenance, etc, that might help. They are compatible with Traveller and Cepheus Engine and other sci-fi RPG games (but they are intended for a Traveller-like system).
- You can find the d66 ship damage tables at DriveThruRPG: What's Wrong WIth the Ship Vols 1-6 Damage Tables
- They also come in the form of a deck of 72 poker-sized cards: Starship Malfunction Cards
*The cards are unique content and do not duplicate with the tables - They also come as a set of cards for Roll20.net: Starship Malfunctions Deck 1 for Roll20
- You can see a cheesy video about them on YouTube: What's Wrong With The Ship?
I like to add a certain level of detail to the ships in my games. The ship is the Traveller's home, so it's important to keep it maintained and in good shape. These tables provide the damaged system, the repair estimate, the damage location, and suggested roleplaying effects.
Please enjoy!
